Week 1 (Aug. 29, 2018): Spartan Superway Small Scale Controls Team

Week 1 saw the small-scale controls team, comprised of Patrick Barrera and David Mapapa, touring the Spartan Superway machine shop. Introductions were made with the other small-scale team, observations of the small-scale track were made, and possible ideas for improving past semesters' hard work were proposed.

(Small Scale Vehicle Controls Team - Final Presentation - ME195B)

The proposed ideas include:
  1. Possibly implementing a 4-wheel drive differential system, as the wheels that move along the outer rail should turn faster than the inner wheels when making a turn
  2. Implementing a form of re-charging the pods. One idea is to utilize inductive charging methods (i.e. "hands-free", wireless charging stations) at pit stops or docking stations.
  3. Making further contributions to the "1/12th Scale Bogie" mobile application
Other actions to be taken:
  1. Replacing the servo motors, which are now broken after many cycles of usage at previous Maker Faire's. The Servo motors switch the direction of the pod car, from one rail to another.
  2. Replacing the motors actuating the wheels
